President Susan Uballe Vice President Secretary Rose Espinoza Treasurer Nina Johnson Publicity Chair Angelica Rodriguez | Welcome to the Progressive Women in North Orange County, Progressive WIN-OC. In the evolution of American society, patriotic and committed people have come together to reform and change society’s problems. Think of the New Deal, of the Civil Rights Movement and of the Women’s Movement. Progressive WIN-OC exists because we need a new Women’s Movement in California. The Women’s Caucus of the California Democratic Party just put out their inaugural newsletter. In it, Lori Hancock, the 14th AD Representative writes: “California state legislature lags behind the nation in the political arena with only 34 women in the California legislature holding less than 30% of the seats while women represent at least 51% of California’s population. She goes on to point out that post Prop 13 the state government is cutting back on programs that affect women and children most. Social issues, family issues, children’s issues like health care for all. The Women’s Caucus legislative goals in 2008 include empowering women to be self-sufficient, independent equal partners at home, in the community and in places of work and to encourage more women to run for office (my underline). This is why Progressive WIN-OC exists. Because now, more than ever, women need a political means of gathering and focusing our energy and intent. We exist because as women we know that if we need something done, sometimes we have to do it ourselves. So Progressive WIN-OC is calling to all women who want change, all women who care about the future of our children and our planet to get involved and active politically. And if you want to join our group (and join the Democratic Party if you are not already a member), you are most welcome! Our monthly meetings are held on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00. Here’s hoping that you join our re-evolution! Help Our Local Candidates Progressive WIN-OC Calling up Victory! 3000 and counting....
